Just bought a red bellied newt for aquarium and it wont go in the water?
At first when i bought it, it was fine in the water then my crib chased him and now he just sits ontop of my filter and wont eat or go in the water, thanks
I bought him from a pet store and they had no access to land for them, i have plenty of hiding places for him, i also have shrimp and frogs but my crib dont bother them, its just he looks very dry and was worried he aint eating, thanks
THe natural environment for the newt is nothing like the natural environment for many other things.
They like wall to wall natural plants etc, so much that it seems impossible for them, like a swamp.
They like to climb and hide among lots and lots of natural plant life. I'd say your newt feels far too exposed and has found a place he considers to be safe.
