Is it bad for rabbits to be in the cold weather?
I live in bay area cali. So it never snows here but it gets pretty cold at night. Like right now its 49°F, Should I bring my bunny in at nights? He has a cage with timothy hay and blankets..he can hop in and out of, but for some reason he likes to sleep ontop of his cage lol ( i have a blanet on top of there too).
Can my bunny get sick from the cold weather?
Should I bring him in?
Hi...I've been raising and showing rabbits for 10 years. I agree completely with kuunoita and I also live in Ohio and there's snow on the ground. My rabbits are kept in an unheated barn and I even leave the doors open unless there is a big storm and they've always been just fine. Rabbits, contrary to what most people think, actually do much better in the winter than in the summer. They have a much higher chance of having a heat stroke in the summer than getting too cold in the winter. I wouldn't use blankets as that's harder on you to keep his cage clean. Just get some nice, fluffy clean straw (hay is actually food and straw is bedding) and add it to his cage and change it about once a week or whenever it starts looking wet and dirty. The most important things are to keep him out of any kind of wind and to make sure he has access to water if it ever gets below freezing point where you live.
