Looking back, what did you never/hardly use?
OK, so now that we're all about a year into mommyhood, looking back, what are some things (baby gear, clothing, etc.) that you never ended up using?
I've been to a few baby showers recently, and found myself thinking, "Oh, she'll never use that..." so I was curious what you all thought.
And I know that not everyone is the same, there are different needs, etc....I mean just generally speaking!
Me:
•infant tub (I think we used it 3 times....just turned into a wet, messy hassle on our kitchen table/counter....got used to holding DD in the sink real quick)
•robes (DD has 4....never used any)
•Moby wrap (I researched this to death & was sure I'd use it all the time! It got too complicated & I ended up liking a sling instead)
•Nipple cream (easier to use my own milk for relief)
•Disposable nursing pads (they just got all crinkly in my shirt...switched to washable ones real fast!)
OK, your turn!
- Bumbo - my son hated it
- full sized highchair - ended up with a portable one that straps to a chair - easier to use and clean
- soothers - my son hated them
- the comforter that came with my son's bedding set - he never used it because it was too big and bulky
- sleep sack - son hated it!
- the disposable diapers (other than the newborn sized) I told people I was using cloth but I still got diaper cakes! I ended up giving them away to others I knew
- a 0-3 month snowsuit - I had one of those carrier snuggle-me things that worked GREAT - no need to wrestle my newborn into a snowsuit!
- this weird carrier thing that strapped on me - I could never figure it out and gave it away.
Funny though, I couldn't have done without the tub (my tubs are way too deep, and my sinks too shallow, so I put the little tub in my normal tub), and spit-up rags (my son was a huge spitter).
I've heard people say they did without a change-table and I couldn't have done without it!
There is NO way to tell what you'll end up using, as I was told by my SIL that I wouldn't use a lot of things, but I really did. It's best you didn't say anything out-loud, as people and babies are so different, and even if YOU didn't use it, that person might! Some people use the craziest stuff, and some use next to nothing. I guess that's why it's good to be in the baby-product business haha
