How can I make sure that my baby daughter stays warm enough?
I have an eight-month-old daughter....tonight we have someplace we have to be but it's 0 degrees F outside with a windchill of about -15. I am of course going to bundle her up and the only time she'll actually be outside is going to and from the car. I don't want her to get overheated, though, b/c she is "hot-natured." We have one of those fleece carseat liners that zips up around her, and I tuck a blanket in as well, and she will wear a winter hat, but is this enough? She'll be wearing tights underneath her pants, as well as two long-sleeved shirts. Will she be warm enough?? I know the question may sound stupid but we just moved to NH 2 yrs ago and I'm still trying to get used to dealing with the bitter cold here, and it's a whole new ballgame with a baby. Thx.
With all those layers on, she will overheat in the house or the car.
I live in Minnesota, and I have two young children, so I know how hard to figure out this can be.
But if you're only going to and from the car, you're dressing her in too much. Dress her for inside. Then put a hat on her, and zip her car seat cover up. (If you have a fleece one with a nylon shell, that's the best because it blocks the wind as well as the cold.) Then drop a blanket on top, and you're good to go.
A sweaty baby becomes a chilled baby in no time. And a hot baby becomes a crabby baby quicker still.
