Fridge freezes, and switches on and off erratically?
My fridge has been freezing things for a while now, steadily getting worse. Then I found it not switching on when it should. I would switch it off at the wall, and when I switch it on again an hour or so later, it would start functioning again.
Very often I would hear what sounded like the fridge attempting to switch on, but after a few seconds would stop again. Yesterday it decided not to work at all - switching on and off didn't help, so I panicked! Eventually after being switched off for about 4 hours, it switched on again.
Can someone tell me what could be wrong, and where to start fixing it? I live in a farming area, and getting a technician out will cost the same as a new fridge!
I live in South Africa, so can't call any 800 numbers.
I'll try some of the suggestions here. Going into a city tomorrow, so will look for a thermostat.
I had the same problem with mine. A vent was blocked at the top and froze everything. It worked perfectly after that was taken care of. I would read the manual or check their web site for technical help or customer service. It sounds like an electrical problem, but it is really a circulation problem...is your fridge jam packed so no air can get around?
It shouldn't require a service call, although normally in a farming community nearly everyone is a handyman and would do this for no charge.
