how many bass buttons on a piano accordion do I need to play in any musical key?
Piano accordions come in different sizes and with varying numbers of base buttons. I know some have 48, 72.... up to 120. I assume that with 120 base buttons you can play in any musical key. Could I play in any key with a 48 base button accordion? What are the limitations? Thanks!
A 72 bass accordion is the smallest layout that will allow you to play in all keys, however it is not practical at the extreme top & bottom of the buttons. (keys of F# and C#) A 120 bass accordion does repeat some buttons, but it is to make it practical to play in all keys. Personally, a 96 bass accordion is my favorite compromise in weight vs. playability.
