Macbook pro 17 inch or alienware M17X?
Ok so my dad told me that if i worked with him the whole summer he'll buy me a laptop within the price range of 3000$.I also hear that alienwares are great only if you are going to be gaming but i will also be doing school projects on the computer but i still want to be able to play some kick@$$ games so which would be better for my situation
EDIT:I also am aware of boot camp so pc/mac game compatibility is no a issue
Also im not deciding between these computers for collage.Its for Jr high
The Alienware would be better for games, but it is still overpriced for what it is. You are essentially overpaying for a decent computer with a cool case. The Mac is also overpriced, but you wouldn't have to worry about spyware, viruses, pop ups, adware, slow down, etc and they are pretty good for sound/video editing and they have an excellent resale value (that is you can resale them for a higher price than you could a PC). But games are usually developed for PC first and ported to Mac later. So you would be waiting a long time for your favorite game to come out for Mac; if it comes out at all.
I would recommend getting your dad to buy a Macbook Pro for you because they are really good for school work. Especially, if your going to be taking photography, Rtvf, film, art, etc. If you want to play games, just buy all the PC hardware separately from a site like newegg.com and build a custom desktop for gaming. It will be a lot cheaper than buying an alienware and you will be able to upgrade it as new hardware becomes available. Also being able to sell your Mac for $800+ after 3 or 4 years is pretty cool considering you're not even paying for it.
Edit: I would still go with the mac for the resale value and the reliability. With the alienware you are paying for a gaming PC that will be obsolete and difficult to upgrade in the next few years and will have virtually no resale value. I don't really know anything about "bootcamp", but I'm sure you can find PC emulators that will work fine if gaming is an absolute must for you. Mac will also have a better warranty and will last well into highschool for you.
