What is the price range of a good theremin?
Would help if you added a not so good one compared at a good one. Its a musical instrument.
First of all, you won't find a NEW ONE because they haven't been made in 30 years or more. Secondly, when you DO find one.. it will either WORK or it won't and if it does NOT work, then it's probably NOT REPAIRABLE because it used TUBES or VALVES, if you're in the UK and TUBES are about as rare as Theramins.
You won't find a SOLID STATE Theramin because part of the electronics.. the part that is operated by the rods.. is in the GRID CIRCUITS of the TUBES.. When your right hand is close to the right rod, it's CAPACITANCE COUPLED to the GRID BIAS on the respective tube and when your LEFT HAND is near the LEFT rod, it is INDUCTIVELY COUPLED to the GRID CIRCUIT of THAT tube (amplifier) and TRANSISTORS DON'T HAVE GRID CIRCUITS OR TANK COILS.
If you DO manage to find a WORKING Theramin it will probably cost in the THOUSANDS of DOLLARS or even EUROS and you need to take it home carefully, strapped to the back of your UNICORN because EVERONE knows that the ONLY WAY to transport a Theramin is on the back of a UNICORN... prefeably a green one.
A more modern alternative to a Theramin, if all you want to do is get the SOUND if not the actual instrument is, you can get a very good SIMULATION of a Theramin sound on a HAMMOND B-3 or C organ. These are much more available than a Theramin.
